American Interns Visit DTU

From 7th to 10th September, 2012, postgraduates from Seattle University (SU) spent part of internships in Vietnam. The event was part of the collaborative exchange agreement between the two universities. DTU postgraduates welcomed the delegation and they all had a memorable few days together.

The group went to visit disabled children at the Danang Center for Dioxin Victims in Hoa Vang. They donated gifts worth 100 million VND, including dining tables, toys, candies, cookies and plants to the center.

Ms. Charity MacDowell said: “I am too moved for words. We really had such a happy time with the children. As a result of our visit, we now understand more fully the reasons for their problems and the endless, long-term effects of the war”.

After their trip, students visited local companies in Danang, including the Military Bank, the Danang Brewery, the Port of Danang and the Hoi An traditional trade village. They also chatted with Mr. Le Canh Duong, Vice-Manager of the Investment Promotion Center, Ms. Huynh Thi Hong Nhung from the Danang Center of Culture, Sports and Tourism and members of the DTU faculty.
Mr. Brian H. Campbell, an engineer at Boeing Aircraft said: “The trip to Vietnam is a part of our MBA curriculum. This is my first time in Vietnam and I like it a lot. As well as receiving much information about business in Danang, we have had the opportunity to experience Vietnamese culture. I have made some friends with DTU students and they have made my trip unforgettable”.
After spending four days with their American friends, DTU students also learned more about them. “American students study very hard and get into much detail when they ask questions. Fortunately, we’ve had a great opportunity to become more knowledgeable and to practice our English”, said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son from class K6 MBA2.
The collaboration between DTU and SU was initiated in 2007. Every year, SU students come to DTU from 1 to 4 weeks as part of their internships. DTU students also travel to Seattle to participate in SU activities.
