Collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) began in late 2007 and early 2008 when the two universities signed an agreement for the licensing of the Software Engineering and Information Systems curricula of the School of Computer Science of CMU to Duy Tan. Following this agreement, Carnegie Mellon has sent many world-class experts in IT to Duy Tan to hold seminars and making speeches while almost 100 DTU instructors in IT have attended the annual train-the-trainer sessions at CMU every summer during the last five years. The agreement extended again in 2011 when Duy Tan continued to acquire the licensed curriculum of Network Security from CMU. The collaboration with CMU definitely adds more to the traditional strength of Duy Tan University as the best university for Information Technology in Central Vietnam.

Relationship with the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) was established in 2009 when Pittsburgh and Da Nang became sister cities and a representative of Penn State Greater Allegheny, Dr. Kurt Torell was amongst the delegates from Western Pennsylvania, who paid a visit to Da Nang for the sister-city ceremony and met up with the leadership of Duy Tan University by surpise. This meeting later led to many fruitful collaboration projects between Duy Tan and the whole Penn State system, in which Penn State benefits from further internationalization effort in Asia while Duy Tan can make the most out of the world-class Business Administration and Hospitality/Tourism programs of Penn State. A series of staff and student exchanges have also materialized as a result of these academic collaborations.

CSU Fullerton and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo are the two major members in the California State University (CSU) system, which have ongoing relationship with Duy Tan University. The value of this relationship is based on the strategic objectives that both DTU and CSU have in common as "integrating the qualities of a teaching university with those of a research university". Duy Tan University, as a result, has "imported" the curricula of Civil Engineering and Architecture from CSU Fullerton and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, respectively. In addition, Duy Tan University and CSU Fullerton are working toward a 2+2 articulation program in Business Administration.
